After hitting the gym yesterday I decided I would stop by Walmart to pick up a few things. As I was pulling into the parking lot I noticed all the pretty flowers out in the lawn and garden section so I thought I stop by and see this year’s selection. After roughly twenty minutes of “looking” I broke down and decided to take a few of these pretties home with me.
To rewind a little…last year was the first spring in our new home and thus the first time I had ever had more than one or two pots to plant flowers in. I took a pretty simple approach last year: Buy pretty flowers and put in large pot or ground. I didn’t work on pairing plants together or making elaborate potted arrangements. This method was easy enough and the flowers did great until Indiana decided it wanted to try being the Sahara desert for the summer. Once that change was made, no amount of water and Miracle Grow could keep my lil’ pretties alive. But before the horrid weather dried all my plants up my first planting season looked a little like this.
My only goal last year was to keep the flowers alive and learn as much as I could. For instance I learned how to prune the crazy rose bushes in the picture above. And this year I am looking forward to attempting those elaborate potted arrangements I was scared of last year.
So what about you? What plans do you have for your garden this year?
