Month One

Age: 1 month
Weight: 9lbs 2oz
Length: 21.5 inches
Head: 15 inches

Sleeping: We decided to let Asher to his thing and sleep whenever he would like. In the week or so our little man was a typical newborn and he was waking every 2 hours to eat but sometime around 3 1/2 weeks he just started falling asleep around 9pm and staying asleep for 3-4 hours. He wakes to feed and then is back to sleep for 2-3 hours. It has been a welcomed change and the rest is nice. It is amazing how great you can feel after the addition of just a few more hours of sleep. He doesn’t really like his rock and play like we had hoped but sleeps great with the me or the hubs so for now we are co-sleeping with our little guy.

Milestones: He is getting really good at holding his head up! He smiles and has laughed in his sleep but hasn’t while awake yet. He is starting to watch us a bit more although I am not certain what he actually sees.

Best Moments: Holding and cuddling with our little squish! He just fits so perfectly on my chest. Seeing the hubs with him. There is truly something so wonderful about seeing your husband with your baby. Speaking of…the hubs has been AMAZING over the last 4 weeks. He took the whole month off and it has been so great having him there to help! He is such a great daddy.

Hardest Moments: Breastfeeding has been harder than I could have ever imagined but I finally feel like we are in a rhythm and things are looking up. I also struggled in the beginning with the lack of sleep. I underestimated the amount of time I would need to recover from 48 hours of laboring. Exhaustion doesn’t begin to describe it!

Baby’s Favorites: Being in the Moby. He loves sleeping on mom or dad’s chest. He likes to eat.
Things I want to Remember:
  1. Seeing his tiny little face for the first time.
  2. Our trip to Cincinnati. The hubs, baby, and I went on a three day trip out of town and while it was an adventure and all traveling times were doubled due to stopping to feed our little man, it was such a fun time. We visited the zoo, Ikea, and the aquarium and he did great the whole time. He spent nearly the whole time wrapped in my Moby and slept.
  3. Having to go shopping to get our long and skinny little man newborn clothes because he wasn’t as big as the doctors predicted.
  4. Easter with both families.

Our little guy over the last month.
