4 Tips for a Stress-Free Thanksgiving

The holidays are upon us! Believe it or not Halloween is next week?!

Though it feels like everyone is jumping straight from Halloween to Christmas, there is another scrumptious holiday in there we can’t forget about.

Celebrating Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is a time to gather with our people over a delicious meal. A time to reflect on the last year and soak up our many blessings.

It is meant to be a time of relaxation, fellowship, and re-connection with those we hold most dear.

Maybe you play host or maybe you travel with your contributions tucked neatly in Tupperware.

Perhaps your family enjoys some after-meal football watching or maybe an all-night/early morning Black Friday Adventure.

No matter how you and yours celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday, there is a lot that goes into making the day festive and fun.

There is often a list of stress-inducing to-dos associated with the execution of this fun-filled gathering.

When you play the role of party planner, it is easy to miss out on all the fun by feeling overwhelmed with all that has to be done.

As moms, we often bear the greatest weight when it comes to any holiday.

Nearly all of the planning and execution falls on our laps. With some planning ahead, you can make sure you are present and in the memories and not just the kitchen on Thanksgiving.

A Bit of Planning Gets You Ahead of the Stress

Thanksgiving Planning Guide

Nothing can ruin a holiday with your loved ones faster than a black cloud of stress.

Planning ahead is the fastest way to avoid stressful situations and get to actually ENJOY the holiday. Below are ways you can stay ahead of the stress this Thanksgiving.

4 Tips for a Stress Free Thanksgiving

1. Create Your Guest List Early

Use the guest list portion of the Holidays Simplified planner to get a count of exactly how many will be joining the festivities. Get this information early so you can finalize the number for food and activities.

2. Plan the Menu & Don’t Forget Dessert

We all love Thanksgiving for one reason or another but I think we can all agree we L.O.V. E. the food.

When a holiday calls for so many edible favorites, it is important to make sure you have a menu in place.

Take some time to sit down and plan out main fare, side dishes, treats, and drinks. Use your menu to stay on task in the kitchen and/or to delegate out what others can contribute.

3. Finalize The Little Details

Hosting Thanksgiving means you will need to think not just about the food but also about the following:

  • Make sure you have enough seating for everyone
  • Be sure to double check your serving supplies and borrow or purchase anything you might need
  • Don’t forget to make sure you have enough cutlery and plates. Whether it is disposable or fine china, it is important to make sure you have enough.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for help! Recruit friends and family to bring a side dish to contribute. But be sure you know who is bringing what. Otherwise you might end up with 3 green bean casseroles.

4. Create a Comprehensive Shopping List

No Thanksgiving gathering happens without an intense shopping trip.

Use the menu and activities list you completed to create your shopping list.

By taking a few minutes to plan your menu AND your shopping list you can get all that you need in one trip and avoid those last-minute, stress-inducing shopping trips.

Enjoy Thanksgiving Without The Stress

It is easy to get overwhelmed when it comes to planning for the holidays.

But with a bit of planning, you can accomplish all that you want and still be able to sit back and soak up the moments with your family and friends.
