I am a firm believer in decluttering but boy, oh b I am a firm believer in decluttering but boy, oh boy if books aren't a difficult thing to let go of.⁠ ⁠ This summer I finally made the leap to say farewell to many of (and store in the attic others) my college and grad school textbooks.⁠ ⁠ For many years these books had a home on a shelf in my office but since leaving the traditional athletic training setting, they began cluttering up my shelves at home. ⁠ ⁠ For years these books sat on this shelf and collected dust. Only on occasion did I pull one from the ranks and peak inside.⁠ ⁠ I finally decided enough was enough. I wanted to be able to use this space as storage for our homeschooling supplies and things we would ACTUALLY USE.⁠ ⁠ So I took some time and sorted through all of these books. I kept the ones that will be useful should I ever return to the sidelines again or if my children want to study anatomy. The others were packed up and donated.⁠ ⁠ And now I have space to house our current learning materials! I can't wait to give you a peek at how we are using this space soon.⁠ ⁠ ⁠ What items are difficult for you to declutter? When it comes to keeping track of our expenses I l When it comes to keeping track of our expenses I love using a color coded system. Here's how it works 👉 Each color represents a category of spending such as groceries, bills, entertainment etc. 👉 As we spend money or pay a bill, it is written down and highlighted the appropriate color. You might wonder why?🤷‍♀️ This step in managing our budget shows us where our money is going. It is so easy to feel like you're not spending "that much" on something. But when you see it all laid out at the end of the month you quickly see how much money is being spent. Seeing these trends helps me to know where we need to adjust our budget and trim our spending. Over the years I have done this on either paper or in a spreadsheet on my computer. This year I am back to paper as I am using my financial planner. This helps to keep everything budget related together in one place. #budgetgoals #budgetplanning #financialgoals #planner
Many years ago I ran an @etsy shop. I sold items o Many years ago I ran an @etsy shop. I sold items of varying sizes which required a whole collection of mailing supplies. There was nothing more frustrating than trying to find a certain size envelope or labels. Without a system in place mailing supplies can quickly become an annoying mess. When organizing supplies it is important to keep things easily visible so they are easy to find. I also recommend keeping like supplies together. This means all of your envelopes are in one place while your packing material is in another. I also recommend printing a few sheets of return address labels ahead of time so they are ready! I love using these magazine organizers from @ikea to house all of my mailing supplies. No more envelopes stacks falling over or tissue paper everywhere. I have been feeling so much more like myself here lately and I want to keep making exercise a priority.⁠ I am going to work on upping my water 💦 intake and working out in some way every day! ⁠ I am also challenging myself to NOT eat out this month. Paying down our debt is our biggest goal right now and small steps like NOT eating out will save us so much money. When our kiddos were babies, the Hubs and I didn't When our kiddos were babies, the Hubs and I didn't put much thought into schooling. In all honesty, we just assumed we would go the traditional public school route.⁠ ⁠ But when Asher was nearing school age, the Hubs and I decided we would delay him into kindergarten. We loved the idea of more time to play and be a kid. We opted to have him complete a parttime hybrid PreK/Kindergarten program. Initially we figured we would put him into public school for kindergarten but as time drug on, both of us felt a pull for something different.⁠ ⁠ After HOURS of research and discussion with each other and friends, we decided we would homeschool starting in the 2020-2021 school year. AND THEN Covid19 hit and we were thrust into school at home.⁠ ⁠ We decided to use the last months of "school" as a time to ease into homeschooling. And while there have been ups and downs and growing pains, our little crew is adjusting to this new routine.⁠ ⁠ We will be starting our "1st grade" year in just a few weeks and we couldn't be more excited!⁠ ⁠ ⁠ Are you a homeschooling family? I love veggies but actually consuming this is a bi I love veggies but actually consuming this is a bit more difficult. Unlike most fruit, veggies (most) require a bit of leg work before they are ready to eat. And if I don't put in the time to clean and chop the veggies, they end up dying in the produce drawer.⁠ ⁠ So each week I carve out some time to wash and prep all of our produce. In 2016 we were debt free other than the mortgage In 2016 we were debt free other than the mortgage on our 2nd home. By that time we had paid off $40,000 in my student loan debt, 3 vehicles, the birth of 2 children, and countless home improvement investments. . It felt so good to be without that debt. And it continued through to this year. . In the last year we have had some changes in our lives that have resulted in new debt. The Hubs finished up his 2nd degree, our sweet Amelia was born, home renovations were completed, and we joined the mini van club. Each of these debts were anticipated and approved by the Hubs and I. . For some seeing that total of over 39,000 in debt might make you cringe. But for me I am not worried. Each of those debts were thought through and we have a plan for repayment. . This is part of why I encourage folks to checkin on their budgets mid-summer. Because things change. For us they have and as a result our budget has been adjusted to make sure we are paying above minimum on these debts. Within a home, there should be spaces that warm yo Within a home, there should be spaces that warm your heart and light your fire.⁠ ⁠ A house can be simply about decorations and pretty aesthetics but a HOME is where we as people go to rest, rejuvenate, and grow. And in order to do that you need spaces that fill your cup. You need spaces that make you feel alive, happy, and at peace.⁠ ⁠ In our office hangs medals from the races I have completed. I LOVE this space because it is a constant reminder of the strength of my body and mind. Each of these bits of metal shows a time where I had to push myself mentally and physically to make it to the end. In that pile is a 1st place metal I earned for my age group WHILE PUSHING Asher in a stroller. There are metals from different states that remind me not only of the triumph of crossing the finish line but also of the adventures we had while we vacationed after my race. And my favorite metal of all shows the culmination of the 20 weeks of hard-fought training it took to complete my first marathon.⁠ ⁠ These metals are just one example of how decor can be more than just a pretty piece to look at.
